Biography

Dr. Guilherme Campos is gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon with a career dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of malignant and benign esophageal and gastric diseases. He is the director of the Center for the Study of Gastrointestinal Motility, which evaluates motility disorders of the esophagus and stomach such as achalasia and gastroesophageal reflux; and the co-director of the Bariatric Surgery Center at UCSF Medical Center. He has extensive experience with traditional and minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat esophageal and gastric diseases and laparoscopic bariatric surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has membership in numerous other medical societies including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Dr. Campos earned his medical and doctorate degrees in surgery at the University of Parana's School of Medicine in Brazil. He completed residencies in general surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery and completed a fellowship in thoracic and foregut surgery at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In research, he has focused on treatment outcomes after minimally invasive procedures. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and written many chapters in books as well as presented his work at national and international meetings. Dr. Campos is an assistant professor in the UCSF Department of Surgery.
